Amendments wera adoptad limlting the application of the act to "Bailroad and wagon road strauts," and the following proviso wns made: "That no suits shall be broughfc nor shall recovcry be had for lands that were I pa!ented íu lieu of other lands covered by ; a grane that was lost or rolinquished by the grantee in conseqtienoe of the failure of the government to withdraw the Eamt for sale or eiltry." The substituto offerod by McRae to repeal the act of Ió91 was deíoated- 73 to 149. Oartor offared a resol ution in the senate to recommit the tariff bilí and gave notice of a speech on the subjuct noxt Monday. It is presunied he will explain the position of the silver men who voted against taking up the bill last week. The senate has pissen the diplomatic and consular appropriation bill.
