FOBT SCOTT, Ark., March 19.- "Cherocef Bill" was hnnged her Tuesday. Hf was but 2l years old and had been a momber of tha BUI Cook gang. When the 3ook gang was broken up Cherokee Bill tarted out iingle handed and eommitted many robbsries and not fw murder were laid at bil door. The particular crims for rrhich hu was hanged was the murder of Ernest Melton, a white man at Lenapah, Cherokee Nation, on Not. 8, 1894. On that day the desperado, in company with another outlaw, known as the "Verdigris Kid," rode nto Lonapah and held up a store. After ;hey had rausacked the place, Cherokee Bill saw Melton standing at the wiudow of a reataurant, twenty feet away. Ho levelod hls Winchester and shot himdead. The "Verdigris Kid" was afterwarda killed in an attempt to rob a store at Bra?g, Cherokeo Nailon. Afrer the Melton murdor Chorokee Bil) ïluded the oifloer, oommitting mauy crimes nntil January, 1895, rhen, through some clever trato gy, he was arrested naar Nowata. On the 13fch of April last Cherokee Bill was sentenoed to be hangftd for Melton'i murder and June 25 tvas flxed as the dsy for hls eiecution. His ease was appealed to the supreme oourt, howoTsr. which resulted in a stay of execution and while it was pending he committed another murder, killing Lawrence Kuling his guard, on July 36.
