It i reportad that the actual work on the tunnel through Pike's peak was begnn eight irrilea from the Cripple Creek goldfield. Th work is done tinder contract with the city of Colorado Springs, and the tunnel is to run from Beaver Creek canyon to West Beaver creek, bringing the water down the cauyon and into the control of th,e waterworks at Colorado Spring. The tunnel Í8 11,000 feet above the eea level and i to be over a mi le and a half long. The workmen will drill through solid granite, and a tunnel 6 by 7 feet will be built. The contract calis for the completion of the work within two years. The price to ba paid is $16 per foot, and at tbis rata it ii eitimated that the work will oost $250,000. Workmen have begun operationi at both ends of the proposed tunnel. Owing to the faot that gold ha been found in paying quantitiea ín o many placel near Cripple Creek, the con tractors have great expectation m to the resnlt of boring through Pike's peak, and a sufflcient number of claims har ben secured to protect any find that mar b made
