The plan of winding steam pipes over eight inches iu diameter with three-sixteentbs inch copper wire, thus nearly doubliüg the bursting pressure, is prononnced by competent judges to be an importaDt change in engineering practice. Further, that the thickness of sheet copper forming the pipe may be reduced to the minimum, and at the same timo insuring the full advantage of wire winding, an improyed system oi manufactnring steam pipes has been devi sed, described as consisting in simply nsing copper of the thinnest possible gauge to form the interior or core of the pipe, whüe the body proper is composed of steel wire wound closely aronnd the core, the interstices being fllled in solid with copper by electro deüosition. Increased strenath comes from wire
