Bay City, Mioh., March 2ö.- A strong aouth wind blew the ice away from tho ghore at the head of Saginaw bay Tuesday afternoon, and a large part of the population of the ice city, composod of flshermen's ehanties, was carried with it. There are not over 300 men on the ice ïhis winter, however, and many of these vvere not on the ico floe. It is impossible to say how many were taken out, certainly not more than forty or flf ty, and no approhension is feit for their safety, as the ice is solid and in no danger of breaking up. As soon a3 a chango of wind comes it will be blown back, even if it does not reach the east shore with the present wind. Several men who noticod thu movement of tho ice in time succeeded in poling theinselves to shore on largo cakea of ice.
