The late Dr. Thomson, archbishop of York, when he was bishop of Gloucester, suftered frora toothache, and by medical advice resorted to narcotica to relieve the pain. One morning, after a night of great suffering, as he left the house to consult the doctor, Mrs. Thomson begged him not to aliow the phy6ician to prescribe a naroc'tic, as it affected hie brain for several honrs after taking it.
