Prof. Roentgen's discovt.ry of the X rays was put fco a practical use at the University hospital on Wednesday afternoon, wheu Dr. W. J. Herdman and Prof. H. S. Carhart used thera fo the purpose of locating the position o: a ballet in a man 's foot. Stephen Schultz, of Eloise, was biought to the hospital byDr. J. Marker f or treatment laving a bullet in his foot as the resul of a shooting accident a few days since A sensitiva píate was placed beneath his foot and the X rays brought int requisitiou. The exposure was three quarters of a hour in duration, and th bullet was located near the joint on th first raetetorsal bone. The exposure w as not long enough to make plain the ímprint on the plate, but was sufficienty olear to lócate the bullet. Another attenipt will be made, and a longer time will be given to the exposure. It is thought that the swelling in the foot prevented a sticcessful exposure without a louger time being given to the operation of the X rays. A lateral exposure will also be made in order to lócate the bullet transversely.
