He had a wide ac quaintance himself, having lived ther from boyhood, but wbeu he was in donb consnlted persons in the different local: ties in whose jndgment he had conf dence. Then, without saying anythin to any one, he flled a copy of this lis with President Cleveland and said : "These are ruy nominationsfor all th offices in my district. If yon desire t appoiut tbem, I sball be very amch pleased. If yon desire to know rny reasons f or selecting ariy particular man f o any particular place, I shall be glad t give tbem. If you think proper to ap point others, I shall not be offended. submit these ñames as a matter of dnt; and shall not approach yon on the snb ject again nnless I ain sent for.
