St. Louis, April 33. - Between 2 and 4 o'clook Wednesday morning the large brick barraeks building, 300 feet long by 30 feet wide, at Jefferson barracks, fourteen miles south of this city, on the river bank, was totally destroyed by lire. A considerable quantity of furniture and clothing was also consumed and 10,000 cartridges were explodod. The soluiers also lost most of their personal efïects. The total loss is about $60,000. The fire department at South St. Louis went to the barracks but when the firemen arnved it was too late to save the building.
