The coinmittee appointed by the Ann Arbor conimon oounoil at its meeting Monday night to investígate into the methods of doing business of Justice Andrew E. Gibson and Marshal M. C. Peterson rnet in the counoil chamber Wednesday moruing. Aid. C. A. Maynard occupied the ohair and the balance of the ccrart of enquiry.Ald. A. Brown, H. J. Burke, C. E. Cady, J. A. Dell and John Koch were also present. Justice Gibson -was represented by Attoruey E. B. Norris.while Prosecuting Attorney Raudall was present as the legal advisor of the committee. The moruing session was devoted to an esamiuation of the criminal cases in which the city was plaiutiff, and of all the fines paid to Justice Gibson np to Nov. 14, 1895. It was fonnd that since that date the finejBiiad beea properly recorded, but had not been paid over. Justice Gibson adniitted that he had $59 ou hand which had not bei-n tnrned over and handed in a certified check payable to the city treasurer for the ataount. He explained that the suspension of fines so of ten uoticed on tbe records was in every case consented to by the city attorney or marsüal. He also stated in response to questioning that he had not heard of the charter provisión ordering periodical reports nntil about two weeks ago and that he is willing and ready to present the desired report at the uext regular counoil meeting. Jnstice Pond's acoounts were also looked over thoroughly. Marsbal Peterson was out of the city and very little was done in bis case. The investigation closed at 4 :30 p. na. and will be resumed today.
