A eountryman of Goethe gives another instance of the difficulty a foreigner has with the Bnglish language. He was in vated out to dinner soon after his ar rival in England and was desirous o: saying something in a very pleaeant way and made vae of the following ex pression: "Will youhave the blooming kindness to, " etc. He nsed it in the sense that the word "blooming" is uaed in Germán, as being something verj charming and beautiful, little knowing what havoc slang has played with the word in England. He was absolutely a a loss to anderstand why everybody was so utterly borrifled at what he though was an extremely nice expression.
