Sax José, Cal., May 28.- Colonel R. P. McGlincy and wife, their daughter, Mrs. James Dunham; James Wells, a son of Mrs. McGlincy; a hired woman, Minnio Sehcosler, and a hired man, James Briscoe, were killed at Campbell by James Dunham, a son-in-law of Colonel McGlincy, who made his escape. About midnight a neighbor named Page heard the report of shóts in the direction of the McGlincy home. Alniost immediately thereafter there eime the sound of galloping loofs on the country road. Hurriedly dressing Page went to the home of the McGlincys and found the body of McGlincy lying in au outhouse in a pool of blood. Shot, Stabbed and Kacked to Death. Entering the house he found the bodies of James Wells, who had been shot; Mrs. McGlincy and her daughter, who had 3cen stabbed to death, and the hired man and girl, who had been hacked to death tvith a hatchet. The interior of the rooms where the bodies of the victims lny was bespattered with blood, and there was every evidence that the murdered victims liad made a desperate struggle for their lives. Page, flnding that all were beyond aelp, notified the authorities in this city. At 3 a. m. one of the officers returned to the city f rom the scène and said: "ïhe scène at the McGliucy home is alniost beyond the powers of description. In tho reception room was found the body of Wells. Evidently a terrible struggle had taken place betwéen Wells and theassassin. Wells was shot two or three times. In the room adjoining uo bodies were Found, but the furniture was smashed into fragments, showing a fearful fight tiad taken place there. Literally Slashed to Pieces. "Adjoining the dining room was the apartment occiipied by Mrs. McGlincy. There she was found literally slashed to pieces with ; hatchet. Blood was everywhere, and, as in the room of Wells, there were evidences of a terrible struggle having taken place between the poor woman and her fiendish son-in-law. Tho other victims were found in other apartnients." The last seen of Dunham he was riding rapidly toward San José on horseback. Fainily troubles are said to have caused the murder. The only lieing in the house who escaped alive was a baby 1 month old, the child of Mrs. Dunlmm and the alleged murderer. Colouel McGlincy was one of the California commissioners to the World' s fair at Chicago.
