Below is given the report of John R. Miner, expert accountant, on the condition of the books aud papers of the city treasuier and city clerk. The report is a very complimentary one to Treasurer Manly and shows that nis work has been performed in a painstaking and conscientious manner : To the Finance Committee of the Common Conncil of the City of Ann Arbor : I have the honor to report that in accordance with your direction I have carefully exatnined the books and, vouchers, canoelled bonds for the year ending May 1, 1'896, and find the same correen. The balance in the city treasury at the date mentioned was $21,821.31, which amount is duly certifled to as being on deposit by the cashier of the State Saviugs' Bank. I have carefully examined tbe books and reports of the city clerk and find them correct. I would cali yonr attention to the large increase iu the amount of work in the offices of the ctiy treasnrer and city clerk during the past year and to the careful and accurate manner in which the duties of those offices have been performed.
