Patriotic Day was appropriately observed by the children of the grammar grades of the public schools at high school hall, on Friday afteruoou last. At 2 o'clock at the tap of the drum 700 children marched into the hall and took their places, by sohools, accorupanied by their teachers. A goodly unmber of peoplehadalso gathered and the hall was cornfortably filled. Amoug the audience was a body of 15 or 20 of the meinbers of Welch Post, G. A. R. The stage and hall had been nicely decorated by the teachers. Patriotic songs were sung by the children, nnder the direction of Miss Cole, and H. R. Pattengill, superintendent of public instruction delivered au excellent plaiu and practical address to the children. Commander Pistorius, of Welch Post, was called upou for a few rercarks, but he said that as he was coniru ander he wonld order Col. H. S. Dean to speak for him and that gentleman made a few brief iemarks in bis usual good natured, earnest way. At the tap ofthe drum the ohildren marched out of the hall, the audience remaiuiug until they were all out.
