The Monroe board of eduoation has engaged Mr. LaRowe, of Ann Arbor, as teacher of physios, iu the high sohool. The salary is $500, but the board has to furnish epsom salts, castor oil, and pills. The annual encampment of the Macoabees occurred last week at Saginaw. There was a good deal of wrangling and jangling aud when we noted the re-eleotion of Miss Ernma E. Bower of Ann Arbor, as great reoord keeper of the Ladies' organization our interest in the proceediugs oeased. We congratúlate the L. O. T. M. on its nhoioe. A fine flowing well has been struok on the farm of M. J. Noyes, of Chelsea. - Anu Arbor Courier. Yes, they are getting combative up tbat way. Two lawyers struck a jury a few days sinoe, a farmer struck a 40 rod furrow in his cornfield, and one of the school boys who aspires to be an actor, actually struck an attitude before the entire class. Possibly the fellow who strnck Billy Patterson hibernates at Chelsea. The U. of M. ball club faas lost the championship. We are not inouriiing, vet we feel a deal of sympathy for the boys. Three of the players were shoved out of the club, for what? To gratify a self sanctimouious assumption of "goodness." What was the height of their ofïending? Wby they had dared to play "professional" ball. They had, wheu their own team was not engaged, helped some professional team in one or two games. For this heinous oiïence the board of control - whatever that is, suspended thein from playing with the ooilege club. We hope they won't play with it, and if the other mernbors of theclub had the patriotism, courage and spirit of men, they would never be seeu on the diamond as a college team, but would let the board of control do the playing. They ought to have the independente of men, and reseut the interference as unwarranted impertiuence. Holmes, Bloomiugstoo and Lowney were the players barred.
