At the meeting ,of the board of regents yesterday, degrees were conferred upon 745 students from the different departments, 196 from the engineering, 51 from the medical, 337 from the law (including 20 who received themaster's degree), 23 from the pharmaoy, G from the homeopathie, and 58 from the dental. A nuinber of minor appointmeuts and reappointments were made, and the entire faculty ot the departmeut of pharmacy was 'eappointed at the same salaries. Tobías Diekhoff and O. E. Lessiug were appointed instruotors iu Germán, Chester B. Bliss was made assistant to the professor of ophthalmology, Casper K. Lahuis, assistaut in obstetrics aud gyuecology and Julián C. McClymouds, assistaut in hygiëne at a salary of 400. Dr. C. G. Darliug's title was chaugel to demoustrator in surgery and lecturer on minor surgery, and Prof. E. ü. Campbell's titie was changed by his request from professor of metallurgy and metallnrgical chemistry to professor of analytical and metallnrgical chemistry, as the work in metallurgy has become the minor part of his duties. The general library wants 10,000 more shelves, Librarían Davis says, owing to the recent gif ts of 4,000 books, the libraries of es-Gov. Felch and Prof. Morris. Arrangemeuts were also made for more shelving in the iaw library, in order to accomruodate the books that will be bought by the Buhl fund. All but fifty of the lockers in the basement of the law building were orderod pnt over in the gymnasium. The most important matter of the meetiug was Regent Barbour's proposition to establish a university printing press for the purpose of publishing the university calendar, and other official doouments, as is done at Johns Hopkins university. It is expected to open this press to the professors and furnish them a place for publishing their books and original investigiitious at small cost. This has been done at other universities and the publications that the professors have put out have added considerably to the reputatioü of their colleges. It is hoped to accoiuplish as much for the University of Michigan. The matter was referred to the fiuanoe committee for investigatiou. It was decided at the request of the Woman's league, whioh has been active iu securing funds for the building of tha womau's gymnasium, to cali the leoture room in that building after Mrs.
