A fatal accident occurred uear the Michigan Central passenger depot in this oity on Monday night. As the 9 :55 train going west was pulling into the depot, a man uained John Lynch, a bricklayer, was walkiug down the track ahead of it, wheu he was struok by the pilot of the engine and thrown backward onto the forward part of the locoinotive and froru there to the ground. Wheu picked op he was dead. His legs had the skin rubbed off them where he was struck by the pilot, his head was broken in at the back, his neck was brokeu, his shoulder bruised and his forehead and eye marked. Papers in his pocket showed tbat he had belonged to the bricklayers' uniou of Galveston, Tex., and that he had been permitted to work in St. Louis, Mo., as late as Juue 0. The man had no friends in this city. Corouer Ball, who was called, inipanelled a jury who viewed the remaius aud adjourned nntil 2:30 p. m. Tnesday, in order to give the trainmen time to get here and give their evideuce. The accident happened down by the first switch, betweeu 300 aud 400 feet from the depot. A merohaudise train was standing in the siding at the time. At tüe coroner's inquest held at Martin 's undertaking rooms, Tuesday, the jury, W. G. Snow, Arthur Crawford, James Tice, J. H. Ball, G. R. Havilaud and Courad Lehman, after hearing all he evidence offered, returued a verdict of accidental killing.
