The Ann Arbor ooumion oouacil was oalled to order Monday evening by President Hisoock and all the rnembers were present except Aid. Kooh. Petitions and Communications were received and disposed of as follows: The recoinrnendation, of the board of publio works that two wheel sorapers be purchased was nnanimously adopted ; that street and sidewalk grades be established on Chapinst, bet ween. Huron st. and Miller ave., on Spring st., beteweu Miller ave. and Chubb road, and on N. Fourth ave. between Beakes and Depot sts. was referred tp the street and sidewalk committee ; that the watering trough on Miller ave. be counected with the water inains as the present supply of water is insuffioient, was adopted ; that Koen Bros. be awarded the contract for constructing two stone culverts on W. Washington st., at 565 - adopted, (the other bids were Gottlob Schueider 885, Clinton J. Snyder $866). The school board asked for the nse of the seoond floor of the sixth ward engine house for school purposes and the request was granted. The request of Noah W. Cheever and 10 others tbat the alley between W. Liberty and W. William st. be established as a public alley, and run olear through from street to street was referred to the street committee. The petition of Martin Halier and 25 others for a plank crosswalk across Ashley st., on the north side of W. William was referred to the sidewalk committee, also that of Michael Grossman and 15 otbers that for improvementa on Eighth st. The request of M. Grossman and 18 others1 for an electric light near tüe corner of VV. Liberty and Eighth sts. was referred to the ligbting committee. The petition of Jacob Dingman and ? others for mi amendment to the dray ordinance was referred to the ordinance comnait tee. G. W. Bullis' petition for a side walk grade was referred to the side walk committee. The finalice oomraittee submitted its report aDd warrant s were ordered drawn on the several funds as follows: Con tingent fund, $1,380.24; sewei, $231. 39; street, $2,408.13; bridge, culvert and crosswalk, $527.40; water, $3,030 pólice, $279.25; firemen's, $580.4.2 poor, $109.38; total, $8,612.27. It wa also recommended that the city build ing site, corner of E. Huron st. and S Fiftn ave., be rented to L. Rohde foi $10 per month which was adopted. Joseph Blackburn's bill for burying 50 dogs at 50 cents each was allowed and ordered paid. The committee on streets and side walkt, recommended that the board o: public works have the dirt on the north drivfi of S. University ave., between S Ingalls and Twelfth sts., removed auc fill in the south drive in the same local ity with it and have the street gradee so that both sides of it will be uniform or as uearly so as possible. Adopted The committee also made a nuinbe of recommendations for improvements on various street in the way of gradiug laying crosswalks, putting in culverts etc. The report of tbe city treasurer show ed balance on hand at last report, $11, 827.08; received during the month, $8,688.76; paid out daring month $8,547.39; balance on hand, $11,968. 45. The reports of the city olerk, city marshal, chief of the fire departmen and superintendent of the poor, were read and placed on file. City Attorney Kearney submitted an opinión that the title of Mrs. Luey W. S. Morgan to the propeity just pnrchased for city building lot was undisputed, and that it was straight, free and clear, was received and placed on file. Justice E. B. Pond reported two ordinance cases tried before him, anc fines to the amount to $10 reoeived and paid over to the city treasurer Justice Andrew E. Gibson reported eight cases tried before him frotn May !l to July 1, total fines $10 paid to city treasurer. Aid. Coon offered a resolution thal the board of public works canse a proper grade to be established aud gutters opened at the junction of N. University ave. aud State st., su as to carry off the surface water, which was a'dopted. Ou motion of Aid. Coon a committee oonsisting of Aids. Coon, Dell and üauforth was appointed to look up a suitable gravel bank for the city's use. The city engineer was on motion of Aid. Coon, directed to fuinish grades for streets when desired to do so by thb board of public works. On motion of Aid. Shadford the board of public works was directed to place the canal crossing Broadway in a safe condition for public travel. The motion of Aid. Moore that the report of the Street committee, reoouimending that Detroit st. be macadamized, was lost on a tie vote. Subsequeutly the vote was reconsidered on a vote of 10 to 4, and the report was referred to the board of publio works for an estímate and specifications and the board was instructed to secure, if possible, the removal of the street railway tracks to Eeakes st.
