Manchester schools for the year just closed, had an enrollineot of 398, and the nuiiiber at the eod of the year ac cording to the Enterprise was 82534 . Just how it happened that there was u half a pupil short, is a problem iu school atteudance that we are unable to solve and we consider oarselves "soiue pumpkins" in ïnathematics tf all kinds, too. The popolists of the oougressional district met in convention last week at Aun Arbor, and nominated John O. Zabel for coDgress. He is a Petersburg lawyer and if we inistake not is connected with a railroad froru Toledo, as one of its officers. This is a serious objection to a party that does not desire to be in cohoots with monopoly. If he is elected, how can he expect to get the government to buy his railroad at twice ita value? Mr. Zabel will not be allowed to unload that .Toledo railroad upou Uncle Sam. Not much.
