■ The bleaching agent of the future, says a writer in one of the textile jouruals, is bydrogeu peroxide, and it is even now cousiderably nsed in wool bleaching. The yarn is steeped iu a solutiou üf hydrogen peroxide to which a little ainruonia has been added, thereby causing the decomposition of the peroxide iuto water and oxygen. The latter, being in lts nascent state, readily attacks the coloring of the wool and forms a colorless oxidation product. This is a permanent white, and should tinting be necessary it can be done after the bleaching. The bleached yarn is soraetimes ■wasbed in acidified water. From time to time various additions have been recommended for the peroxide bath, but with very little or no advantage. The bleaching solution is to be kept alkaline - indeed the more alkaline the liqnor the quicker is the oxygen liberated ; erice too inuch arurnonia is alniost a3 haá as too little.
