öEDALIA, A.O., July 29.- Mart Craw'ford, a widower, 88 years old, employed as a section foreman on the Missouri Paciflc, was lynched a few miles from Tipton, Moniteau county, Mouday. He was arrested at Tipton Suuday night, charged with attempted assault uon Miss Mary Tuckley, 16 years old, who arrlvèd at Tipton from Kansas City last tíaturday. ïhe girl was en route to Versailles, Morgan county, the home of Crawford, and consented to accompany him to that place in a private conveyance. The assault was attempted a few miles from Versailles. The meeting of the two men in the roadway alone prevented Crawford sucpeedlng. Miss Tuckley called for help, Ijut Crawford whippod up his team and reached Versailles. He returned to Tipton Sunday and his arrest at night followed. Sheriff Lumpee arrived at Tipton Monday morning and started for Vei-saillos A-ith the prisoner, but was met by an unmasked mob, who took Crawford from him and hanged him to a tree.
