Lewis Schoettle was drowned in the Huron river Suuday nigbt, while bathing at the Birkett bridge. He van a threshing iu achine outfit and lived about a mile west of Birkett. Tvro men from Dexter went to Birkett Sunday to go out to work with Schoettle the next day and Sunday night shortly after 9 o'clock the three men took a bath in the river at the side of the bridge at Birkett. Scboettle could not swim and his two companious oould swim only a little. At the point where Schoettle was drowned tle water was eight or nine feet deep. One of Schoettle 's oorupanious heard him screaui for help aud as he was uot euongh of a swimmer to aid him he ran for assistance whioh prouiptly arrived and at once dove for Sohoettle. His body svas fouud tangled in thick weeds at the bottom of the river. When recovered the body had been under the water about 15 minutes. EƊforts were made to resuscitate Schoettle but in vaiu. He leaves a wife and two children in destitute ciruumstances.
