Mton, Hls., Sept. 1.- Part of the Equitable Powder company's plant four and one-half miles east of Alton, was blown up shortly before 3 o'clock Tuesday morning. It is known three persons lost their lives. The worka took fire and the big storehouse was in imminent danger for a time. The shock of the explosión was feit for twenty miles and East Alton and Upper Alton buildings were damaged. In Alton many fancied an earthquake had come. The ñames of the men killed are: Henry Rogers, William Rettgers and Thomas Keffer. A second explosión of less intensity followed the first explosión.
