According to tJieir deductions, the illuminating power of the "great dy star" is equal to that of 14,000 eau. lies at a distance of ono foot, or of 8,500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.000 candles at a distance of 95,000,000 miles1. Frorn the above figures it follows that the amount of light which fiows fvom the solar orb could uot be produced by the daily burniag of 200 globes of tallow,
