Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 8.- Eoth houses oí the legislature met Monday in extra session. The message of Governor Turney sets out at length the iïnancial condition of the state, says there are reasons to believe there wlll be a large deficit Jan. , 1897. and recommends the restoration of the tax rates of the act of 1893, which were reduced 33 per cent. in 1895. The legislature in 1S95 lowered the tax rates. but assessments so decreased that this year the revenues have alarmihgly decreased. A legislative committee wil) be appointed to examine the estimates furnished by Governor Turmey and report for the action of the legislature.
