Ann Arbor School Board
The school board for the city of Ann Arbor met on Tuesday evening and organized as follows: President, J. T. Jacobs; seoretary, John R. Miner; treasurer, J. E. Beal. Ou taking the chair President Jaobs said: Ladies and gentlemen of the board : Yesterday the people at the ballot bux said: "We of the first school district, approve of your course ou the board of trustees dnring the years that yon have been a member of it, aud ask yon to serve us a while loüger. " You, members of the board, have said by yonr electing me to this high office, that you heartily endorse the actiou of the people yesterday. I am very grateful for the high compliment yon have paid me tonight and for what the people did at the polls yeslerday, yet it is not wbolly selfish, bnt because I will have a chance to refute one of the campaign lies that have been going the rouuds, that if I were elected our worthy superintendent was to be disturbed. I ain glad to say that he was not at all aunoyed by the falsehood. I am also gratefnl tonight that I svas elected trustee of the bcard and president of this honorable body, that ïny friends might be saved humiliation and be vindicated. Now, members of the boajd, I thank you for the honor conferred,and with your indulgence and heip I will endeavor to do what is fair and right as my oonscience and judgment direct. The president appointed the committees for the ensning year as follows: Teachers and textbooks - Trustees Anna B. Bach, chairman, J. E. Beal, Evart H. Scott. Buildings and grounds - Trustees John R. Miner, chairman, J. T. Jacobs, Christian Mack. Finance - Trustees Christian Mack, chairman, W. B. Smith, Ottmar Eberbach. Library - Trustees W. B. Smith, Emma E. Bower, Ottmar Eberbach. Tuition - Trustees Anna B. Bach and Christian Mack. The secretary's salary was raised from $150 to $225 per year. The salary of the treasurer remains at $150 as before. The treasurer's bond was fixed at-$4O,0OO. Nine flre extinguishers were ordered purchased at a cost of $82.50. The secretary was directed to get bids from the several printing offioes for publishiog the proceedings of the board for the year. Miss Lucy K. Cole's request for mnsic charts for use in her classes was referred to the comuiittee on teaohers and textbooks with power to act.
