Editor of the Adu Arbor Argus : Hon. Geo. Spalding arrived here today to attend a republioan pole raisiug and to discuss the silver issue, there being ouly 18 or 20 men and 30 ladies in attendance. Tbey omitted the pole raising and he made a disuial attempt at the silver question for a few minutes, introdaoing the old Mexican dollar cbestnut, which fell like a wet blanket on his slim audience. He then changed bis tactics and took np the old, old tariff issue and tried hard to infuse a littleenthusiasru into his silent audience, bat, alas, they wouldnot enthuse. Mr. E. E. Leland introduced the speaker and as Mr. Leland has stroag it to 1 proclivities he acted out of place and no doubt feit so. Mr. Spauldiug apolgetically said that this new silver issue was sprung on tnt) oampaigu so suddenly that they, the G. O. P., were hardly prepared for it, or words to that effeot, and then wrung out a crocodile tear for the poor working girls who had their savings in the banks ouly to have to surrender one-half of it to the silver sharks. He theu pathetioally told his hearers how the poor pensioner, who now reoeives $8 per rnonth, after Bryan's eleotion would only receive $4 per rnonth, and do you know the adnience looked as though they did not believe that.
