Hou. James Ashley, oí Ohio. ex-congressman and territorial governor of Montana, clied Wednesday morning at Alma sanitarium. He was oae of the most prominent congressmen during the war and was a personal friend of President Lincoln. He has written a book of personal memoirs of Abraham Lincoln, which is a valuable work. Mr. Ashley was well known in Ann Arbor, it having been bis tormer hqaie for a nurnber of years while his children were beingeducated. His connection with the Ann Arbor Railroad as its prime jiiover and promoter made him a well known and prominent figure in this county iu the early days of the road. Since leaving Aun Arbor, Mr. Ashley has resided in Toledo, O-, which was bis home befoie he carne here. He leaves a widow andthree children, H. }V. Ashley, manager of the Ann Arbor Eailrood, Charles S. Ashley, an attorney in Toledo, and Miss May Ashley, who married a son of Abram S. Hevritt, and resides in New York.
