A fatal accident resulting from the daugerous practice of jumping on and off moving railroad trains, whioh i prevalent amoug the young lads of this oity, occurred in the Michigan Central yards on Moriday eveuing, and Daniel Pankey, tbe 12 years oíd son of Mr. and Mrs. John Paukey, residing at No. 2 Fuller st., lost his life. ín company with Jimmie Blithman, Pater Long, Mark Freeman and other boys he was jumping on and off the trains of oars as they passed through the Michigan Central yards at the time the 4 :58 east bonnd f ast passenger train carne into the station. When the train, which was a long one, began to pull out, tbe boys jumped on to it and having ridden as far as they dared dropped off as the train gained in speed. It had been raining and the steps of the ooaches were slippery in consequence. Young Pankey was riding on tbe fourth car from the end of the train and when be jumped his foot slipped, he lost his hold and he feil striking the back of his head on the side of the coaoh. From theie he feil to the ground with his on tbe rail and the wheels of the cars passed over the back part of his skull crushiDg it awayand causing his death instantly.. His body was picked up by the sectiou hands who were following the train on a hand car. It was removed to O. M. Martin 's undertaking rooms and his father and mother were informed of his death. A coroner's jury consisting oJ Charles Dwyer, Lester Canfield, William Eldert, Joseph Clay, Thomas Bell and George Craigwas impanelled. who viewed the body and adjourned. The verdiot of the jnry at the inquest held Tnesday afternoon, was in aocordance with the facts. The remains of the boy were taken to Elizabethtown, 111., Tnesday morning for iutermeut.
