Editor Argus: Col. Ingersoll says money oannot be created by law, can he point to auy money in existence except beads and wampnm that is not the creature of law? Long ago England enaoted by law that gold should be worth $20.67 per ounce, other countries, including tbe United States adopted the same valuation. In aecordance mints were established and part of their duties were to receive gold and return a fixed amount of money. Therefore, an ounce of gold bullion is always worth an ouuce of gold monuy. It cannot go to a premium without gold ooin going to the melting pot. It cannot go to a discount so long as a syudioate of natious goarantees its minimum money value. If England should increase the value of gold bullion by directing her mints to pay the holder ten per ceut more money for au ounce deposited, would Col. lugersoll part witb his twenty dollar piecee at their face valne? If so it would be the old saying reenacted "a fooi and his mouey soon parts compauy. " Under these conditions our gold coin and bullion would seek the EDglish mint to obtain the increased valuation just the same as our silver bulliou did when the French mints received it at a the ratio of 1CJ ounoes to 1 of gold, while our mint valuation was 16 to 1. Respeotfully, Amerioau Falle, Idabo, Oct. 16, 1896.
