At the regular monthly meeting of the common oouncil Monday evening ten aldermen were present. Aid. Manyard acted as president pro tem. But little of interest transpired. Mayor Walker's veto of five of the six crosswalks ordered at the last council meeting, on the ground that the condition of tbe city's fluances did not warrant snch nunecessary expenditnres, was sustained, Aid. Coon voting against it. Two Communications were read and referred to committees. The fiuanoe committee recommended the payment of bilis from the different fnnds as follows, and warrants were ordered drawn for the several amounts : Contingent, $1,219. 15 ; general fund, $49.16; sewer No. 5, $191.38; bridge, cnlvert and crosswalk, $1,400.88; street, $3,358.88; pĆ³lice, $274.50; firemen's, $513.99; poor, $114.80; total, $7,126.74. A stone walk was ordered built on the north side of the Aprill block, corner S. Main and Liberty sts. The supeiintendent of poor reported the following expenditnres during October: First ward, $21.31; Second, $30.19; Third, $31.31; Fourth, $45.77; Fifth, $20.20; Sixth, $4.42; total, $153.20. The city marshal reported the following arrests: Drunk 2, violatiDg city ordinance 2, assault and battery 2, rape 1, larceny 1, insane 1, truancy 1, total 30. Fees oollected, $8.60. Action on the proposed grading of Oxford st. , was, after some discussion, deferred until next meeting, and the grade on W. Seventh st. was ordered established. All students of the high school are invited to become contribntors to tbe new High School Qnarterly.
