A prominent capitallst of Detroit was recently presented with a deed of a farm, the consideration being the amount of a mortgage held by him with two years' interest which was in default. The farm was bought twenty years ago for $10,000, and the mortgage given at the time for $3,000. In spite oí the default in payment of interest recently, foreclosure was not made because the land was not considered by the mortgagee to be readily convertible into cash. The land has been improved In productlve capacity, is well located, and the buildings and fences are in 'better order than when the mortgage was given. The question follows: Who has been robbed? Hard coal sells at St. Joseph, Mich, for $7 a ton, and so do grapes. The coal trust makes millions of dollars every month and the grape growers do not make a cent.
