It is laughable how the consuls of the different nations in África, Asia and Sonth America are frequently criticised by their papers at home for not being more assiduous in looking after the commercial interests of their conntries, and how they are bidden to take pattern by the represen tati ves of other nations. ïhus the British trade papers hold the Germán and United States consuls np as admirable examples, and the United States and Germany go into raptures over the faithful and energetic conduct of the Britishers.
