For 1896 - City engiueer's salary, $1,200; assistant engineer's salary to .Tanuary 1, $472.50; two engineer's helpers, $443.80; total, $2,116.30. The figures for 1896 inolude office help, inspection of new sewers, and plarubing inspection. In 1895 17 miles of sewer were bnilt at a cost for iuspection of $88.90 per mile; in 1896 four miles were coustrncted, at a oost for inspection of $32.65 per mile.
