The story of the play is ratber original in theme and hinges upon couvict No. 777, being wrongfully accused of a crime and oonvicted on tbe testimouy of bis sweetbeart, the girl haviug been duped by the desiguing villnin. lívery act culminatea in striking climaxes, laughable comedy drama and genuino flashes of wit and repartee, aud despite its sensatioual character, is a play tnat is ïmioh enjoyed. ., The scenic elemeuts are above tbe average, sbowing a cottou plantation in far away Louisiaua, the Baton Rouge prison in its beüutiful moonlight effaots and the La Rosa club rooms, one of New Yoik's most famons gambliug honses.
