Indianapolis. Jan. 19.- Charles Warren Fairbanks was elected United States senator to succeed Daniel W. Voorhees by the legislature at noon Tuesday. In the senate Senator Hawkins made the principal nominating speech and Representativa Francis T. Root placed Mr. Fairbanks in nomination in the house. ïhere were several seconding speeches. John R. East made the nominating speech for Mr. Voorhees, who received the vote of the minority. The result of the election wil! be formally announcPd Wednesday in joint session.
