The Unicorn
The unicorn was one of the fabled monsters of antiquitv. It was, according to a sumraary of the opinions of several of the oíd time writers, a beast about the size of a cornraou horse, but with very short legs. The peopie of the rniddle ages beJieved in the existeuoe of three kinds of unicorns - the magnifioent white unicórn, which had a purple face and blue eyes and a single hom a yard in length; the eglisseriou, which resembled a gigantic deer and had a very sharp hom growing frora the middle of the forehead, and the monoceros, orcommon nnicorn. The white unicorn 's horn was of three different oolors - white at the lower part, black as ebony in the middle and red at the point. Common nuicornfl were said to have had horna about ]8 inches in length, but so strong that they could easily kill an elechaut.
