Chicago, Feb. 2.- With a jury finally Becured after a struggle and wuh a crowd in altendance that packed the court room the O'Malley-Santry murder trial was fairly put under way Tuesday. The two men are charged with the murder of Gus Coliander at an election boctb nn the night of the November election in 1894. Officer Nicholas Miehaels, who was on duty at the booth on the night of the shooting, took the stand. He carne with little preliminary talk to the moment of the shooting and described how six men rushed in with the command: "Throw up your hands!" Stepping in front of the jury the offlcer told how he grappled with one of the assailants, drew his own revolver and flred: how one of the invaders feil in a heap before him, and how he was himself shot through the thigh. "Who was the man who stood in the doorway, holding a revolver?" asked Mr. Deneen, the prosecutor. "Thomas O'Malley." And the policeman pointed to the alderman. Before the sensation eaused by the first dramatic climax had died away Dr. Henrotin, who was chief surgeon at the Alexian Brothers' hospital at the time of the murder, arrived and testifled to the nature of Coliander's wound.
