Secretary or State Gardner says that it was nacessary last fall to send back for oorrection the returns froin 54 of the 83 counties. IĆ¼ many cases the corrooted returns contaimd oew errors, making it necessary to send for correotious the second and third time. Even theu, despite the most strenuons efforts ofthe board, the vote of many precincts, and in several instancen of the entire cotinty, was lost by reason of errors which resnlted from someoue's carelessnaps and which should have been avoided. He will address a coramuuioation to boards of election commissioners, inspectors, coanty canvassers, and uonnty cerks, to use sueh care that no individual, pieciDct or county shall lose its vute becanse of errors in the oanvass or returns. Seoretary Gardner says that had the November election been close the result would in many cases have been entirelv chaueed bv rors.
