Prof. Alton D. DeWitt, whose portrait is here giveu, is the democratie uominee for conuty comiuiesioner of schools. He is 40 years of age and has resided in this county for the past eight years. He has bai 16 years' exporienoe in school work acd is at present principal of the high school of Dexter, a position whioh he has held for the past three years, to the satisfaction of the patrons of the school. He is a gradúate of Hntsou's Commercial College of Cleveland, Ohiu, and of the Flint, Micb., high school. He received a life certifinate as a teacher at the lichigau State Normal School at Ypsilanti, in 1885 and took the degree of Baohelor of Pedagogy at the same school in 1892, finishing the six yearn' courso. It will be seeu tbat he is well eqnipped for the position to which he aspires and that he has speut years in seonring an eduoation for bis life work, that of teaching. Mr. DeWitt is not a rnaster of the politioians' arts of securing votes, and for that reasou and to more emphatioally emphasize the divoroe of schools and politius he sh'onld be given the hearty support of the friends of the oommon schools.
