Tbe third mass meeting to discuss the porposed charter changes, was held last Priday evening on the cali of Capt. C. H. Mauly, the anthor of the proposed ohanges. It was attended by about 50 citizens and a resolation presented by Capt. C. E, Hisoock was adopted by a strong vote. The resolution declared it the seuse of the meeting that no ohanges shonld be made in tbe charter at tbe present session of the legislatnre. Capt. Manly was alone in bis advocaoy of the proposed changes, wbile speeches against them were made by Charles E. Hiscock, Col. Henry S. Dean, Evart H. Scott, Seth C. Randall, Levi D. Wines and S. W. Beakes. City Clerk G-len V. Alills was made chairman of the meetiDg and Aid. H. J. Burke, secretary. Tbe flrst proposition to elect the city treasurer was voted down by a vote of 14 to 11. The inotion to pay the treasurer a salary was strongly opposed and as a substituto Capt. Hiscock's inotion against any cbauges whatever in the charter was adopted. Capt. Manly tben moved that the question of abolishing the board of public works sbould be voted on at the spring eleotion. This was opposed ou tbe gronnd that such a vote coulJ not legally be taken without special authorization by tbe legislature. Pending this ruoÉion, the meeting adjourned. The decisión of the various cointuittees appointed to consider these changes was adverse to theru and the oouncil unanimously adopted the report of its committee. The public meeting oalled by the friends of tbe changes arrived at the same deoision, so that if the wishes cf the oitizens of Ann Arbor are to be consulted in reference to the charter no changes will be made in it this year.
