The Ann Arbor Municipal Club had quite an important meeting at Newberry liall Wednesday evening, to discuss what shall be the course of the club witli reference to the coming city election. A motion that the club put a city ticket in the field was followed by a substitute motion to cali a Municipal Club caucus and convention to be held at the earliest possible time after those of the two parties, republican and democratie, at which time the tickets put up by the oíd parties shall be considered and a decisión made as to which to support. In the discussion that followed it was stated that neither the democratie nor republican party fears the club as at present worked; that if neither of tbe nominees for mayor of thode parties are favored by the club, it should putathird ticket up; others thought tiie club should attach itself to the least objectionable nominee, "choose the lesser of two evils," and another speaker lamented the fact that the club had notsupported J. T. Jacobs in his run for the mayoralty two years ago. Still another speaker bore down hard on the outgoing aldermen of the third and fourth wards, J. Laubengayer and II. J. Burke, and stated that they could beeasily improved on, but believed that the tight should this year be confined to choosing a good mayor. Another gentleman had a great regard tor C. E. Hiscock, but and here he was interrupted by several who objected to a consideration of his name as he was :iot a candidate. ïhe substitute motion to hold a caucus and convention was then carried and the date set was Monday evening, March 29, at 9 o'clock. A canvassing committee, to consist of a democrat, a republican and a prohibitionist from each ward in the city was next provided for and the following names of gentlemen, the nomination of any one of whom for mayor would receive the endorsation of the club were mentioned: Dr. C. G. Darling, H. G. Prettyman, G. Frank Allmendinger and Levi 1). Wines, republicaiis; V. D. Harriman, II. J. Brown and and Thomas A. Bogle, gold democrats; and Ambrose Kearney. silver democrat. A number of other names were suggested but forvarious reasons failed of endorsement.
