The legislativa correspondent of the Detroit Evening Journal in the Saturday issue of that paper has the following flattering words to say of Representative A. J. Sawyer: " Representativo Sawyer. of Washtenaw, is the idol of the house of representativos. Thursday, when Speaker Gordon called him to the speaker's platform to preside over the house in committee of the wbole, the merribers ousered and applanded and called for a speeob. Mr. Sawyer said that he bad heard from bis constitueuts, and they wanted legislation, not speeches. Yesterday be disregarded the alleged wishes of the aforesaid constitnents, and made the best speech that has been listened to in the house this session. It was made in defense of hi divorce bill, after two amendments ha been proposed by Represen tative Don ovan and Bryan. It was eloquent vigorons and convincing, and that i was effective was proved by the mem bers promptly rejecting both amend ments, and passing the bill as Mr Sawyer drafted it "
