It is said that it is oxtremely likely, nnle8S some vigorous move to the oontary be made, that Senator Mason's biJl to remove the homeopathie department to Detroit, will pass the state sécate. Tbis bilí provides that the proceeds of tbe oue-sisth of a mili tax shall uot be paid over to the nniversity until the regents have removed the homeopathio medioal department to Detroit. It will b8 seen that in this way the legislature is asked to force tbe nniversity regente to do that whir.h the legislature is given no power to eompel them"to do. The iromoters of the bill ask that the hard alternative be placed before the regents of either removing tbe homeopathie dejartmeut or losing all revenne from the state. Senator Mason formerly lived in this city and his family doctor was Dr. D. A. MacLachlan, who is of eourse tbe prime mover in the whole matter. It is of eourse unnecessary for the Argus at this time to disenss the ruerits or rather demerits of the bill, but it is our object to cali oor readers' attention to the faot that it is high time everything possible was done by the frieuds of the nuiversity to defeat this bill which would begin the disiutegracion of the university. Senator Mason is chairman of the uuiversity oommitteB of the senate. As sucb, he will have considerable infloence towards seeuiing the passage of his bill. Dr, MacLaohlan has devoted all his euergies along the same line, jast as he did some years ago to prevent the removal. Senator MoMilhin is the chief benefautor of Graoe hospital of Detroit andit is hinted that the hospital is not on a paying basis and needs the homeopathie departmeut as an adjunct and that the inflaence of the friends of Grace hospital may be utsed in the legislature. It will be seeu there is urgent need of aetion on the part oï the friends of the university.
