The dress uniforma of the Michigan National Guard have at last been formally disoarded and will be seen no more in the fields of active service. Quartermaster General White, as president of the State Military board, has signed the order whicb puts them out of comrnission entirely and gives them to the Sons of Veterans. The war department at Washington bas recommended the retirement of the oíd uniforma and everything else in tho way of dress parade affairs, and that they be burned, but the Sons of Veterans made application for them and they are now turned over to equip the mernbers of that crganization. With them go those cumbersome helmets which have made thousands of tieads tired in years gone by. The organizatiou takes them in the way of a loan, giving regular quarïerly reports as to their condition and care, but it was only a matter of farm, for iliey cannoc be worn out too quick to suit the military board. Thesi! dress uniforms are a relie of ;he ola rlays before the army was put in shape for active work. They were never planued for comfort or utility and the order retiring them was warmly welcotned. The uniform will hereafter consist entirely of the fatigue blouse, with the cap and servioe faat as chauge headgear, and there is no cumbersome baggage to carry either. The knapsacks have long since been discarded and the list of the relies of the old days will soon be forgotten.
