A cuneras effect ot the plague ín india has been a sudden increase in the iiumber of pearls reaching the Loudou market and u consequent marked fall in priesa. This is not due to unusnal inrtustry on the part of the divers, but to the fact tliat the uative dealers at Bombay have been in snch haste to quit the stricken city that they have eagerly disposed of their wares at far below the customary inarket value. One English firm of importers of Indian pearls has accumulated a stock which, if placed guddenly on the market, it is estituated, -fpould send down quotations fully 's per cent. _
