Prof. Peabody lectured in the Unitaiian charch Monday evening under the auspioes of the Anti-Saloon League and told bis audience how Cambridge, Mass., got rid of its ''saloons. He said that the "Cambridge idea" was the law allowing citizens of that town to vote eacb year as to whether a license shall be granted to sell intoxicating liquors. The faot that eaeh voteris coinpelled to vote yes or no on this question brings the whole matter home to the voter's oooscieuce. lt is now years sinee this movemeut begau, and eaon year an aati-saloon resolotiou has bsen oarried hy overwhelming majorities. Under th6 idea Cambridge has become tbe largest oity in the world without a saloou, and its valoation has doubled siuoe the movemeut began. The politics, which were formerly under the saloon control, are now as pare as they oould be made.
