-hapter exercises by the Sunday school cbildren formed the evening services at St. James, Episcopal, and the Congregational chinches. At the Congregational paisonage, Monday evening Bev. and Mrs. Staiey gave a reception in honor of Mrs. Morris, of Red Jacket, U. P., which was largely attended. The lady is the wife of Eev. S. T. Morris, a forrner pastor of the church. The hieh wind of Sunday blew the water out of Birkett's mili pond at Pinckney, overflowed and wasbed away the dam, and in its mad course to Portage lake washed away three bridges. The damage is estiroated at $1,500. One thing in connection with the washout which has amnsed the residents of that section bas been the exaggerated report of the damage done that was published by the Detroit Tribnne. That paper placed the damage done to the milldam at $20,000. Mr. Birkett gave only $6,000 for the whole property when he bought it. The estímate uf $25,000 for the rest of the dmago done is equally far estray.
