Washington, April 20.- The president Tuesday sent to the senate a long list of nominations, among which were several of importance: John A. Merritt of New York, to be third assistant postmaster general: Cornelius Van Cott, to be postmaster at New York city; James L. Davenport of New Hampshire, first deputy commissioner of pensions; Leverett M. Kelley of Illinois, second deputy commissioner of pensions: John P. Jackson, collector of customs for the district of San Francisco, Cal.; William Youngblood of Alabama, auditor for the interior department; William A. Jones of Wisconsin, to be commissioner of Indian affairs; Milton C. Phillips, attorney of the Vnited States for the eastern district of Wisconsin.
