It is stated tbat the regents in exeontive sessioa Wednesday offered the aoting presideDcy of the aniversity during the abseuce of President Angelí to Dean Harry B. Hutchins, of the law department. Whatever aotion the tegents took was in executive gession so that the fact oannot be stated with the utmost positiveness, bnt nevertheless the rumor is given oirculation on exoellent autbority and is to tbe effeot tbat Dean Hutchins bas been given until May 5, to decide whether or not he will accept the acting presidency. It is also said tbat the regents reached this decisión unanimously. If Mr. Hutohins will so accept, the appointment at the meting of the regents next Wednesday will nndoubtedly follow. The Argus presents an excellent likeness of Prof. Hntohins, who is a man of great executive ability as well as experienoe in ite exercise in an executive capacity, having been deau of the Cornell law sohool before accepting the deanship of the law depaitment of Michigan University. He is a gradúate of the university and was a professor here before he went to Cornell. He is a man of fine presence and courteous ruanners and of decisión of character and there is no doubt that he would inake an aoceptable executive. It is not known ■wbether or not he will accept the position, as the attempt of any man, however well qualified, to fill the shoes of so great a man as Dr. Angelí, must be a difficult one. As far as the news of the offer of the presidency to Mr. Hutchins has been spread, it has been received with general satisfactioD.
